In 2005, the indigenous population of Bilbao decreased by 19,000. In contrast, the city saw the arrival of an estimated 16,000 immigrants the same year. This positive aspect of immigration clearly allows Bilbao to maintain a constant population, contributing to the rich life of the city and ensuring it continues to thrive. At the same time the immigrant population is rejuvenating the overall population as the majority of immigrants are between 25 and 40 years old.
